Norton Grim and Me

ON Saturday 9th September the first academic conference on boarding schools and their psychological effects was held by the Psychology Department at Brighton University. Joy Schaverien, Nick Duffell, Thurstine Bassett and other experts spoke to a large audience of psychologists, analysts, therapists and ex-boarders (some of those categories over-lapped, of course). I talked about Stiff Upper Lip, and the hundreds of accounts from survivors of boarding school trauma on which much of the book draws.

The film-maker and art therapist Tony Gammidge showed a short animation he has made. It’s beautiful, clever and very moving. He gave me permission to put it up here.
